Ok, make yourself a cuppa, Mamma has A LOT to talk about here. Firstly, let me tell you about Mount Mitchell Homestead - it is situated in the Pyrenees region - just past Ballarat, about 90 min from Melbourne. The homestead is run by Kate and Simon Toi and was built way back in the 1860's. The property has the most incredible gardens Mamma has ever seen - huge manicured hedges, vast lush green lawns, a fruit orchard, a nut orchard, a huge established veggie garden, a rose garden PLUS a picturesque lake with jetty. The main house (and private residence) is majestic and grand and the outbuildings are full of character and just gorgeous. On this incredible property (and working farm) is the cute bluestone cottage - surrounded by a thick green hedge - and THIS is where you can stay. It is tastefully decorated, clean and still holds the original character. There is a lovely fireplace for the winter, a TV (just playing DVD's - so bring some) some toys and puzzles, and a large kitchen to create your holiday feasts. If exploring the gardens doesn't fill your day then helping out Kate and Simon with feeding the cows, or the chooks, or checking out the sheep will - or possibly a bit of 1 on 1 b/ball OR heading into the stables for a go at Sega Rally game.. The cottage has a double room and bunks, but the incredible hosts can provide extra bedding if required. There is also the Mitchell House on the property that can sleep 7 (3 bedrooms) for larger groups.
Keep an eye out for events happening at the estate, the next one is The Mount Mitchell Garden Event April 22
Mamma's special mentions: Kate and Simon also own the absolutely incredible Abode Accommodation also - this is located about 25 minutes away min Moonabel
