Mamma hadn't realised it snowed in Cranbourne, but it seems that for the rest of the school holidays IT IS at the BIG FREEZE FESTIVAL! The Big Freeze has launched with real snow pits, a massive snow dome, kids craft activities and more. The festival is all INDOOR event at the Cranbourne Racecourse. You even get to travel through a giant igloo to get into the place!
For the next week families can enjoy hours of fun at the festival. There are snow ball challenges, a giant inflatable slide, rock art, live performances, snow boarding practice and even gymnastics! As you arrive in the arena your kids will straight away drag you through the snow village with snow (the foam variety) gently falling and into the brilliant village set up by the Melbourne biz - Cubby and Co. Mamma knows what this little one will be asking for come Christmas!
But of course, the main attraction HAS to be the SNOW! Snow pit sessions start every half an hour and gives the little ones plenty of time to learn how to make a snow ball, throw it at Mamma, fill their bucket and generally have a great time. If they are old enough to realise the importance of gloves when playing in the snow, you will have a hard time getting them out after half an hour. The snow is made from the same machines they use up at the alpine resorts and the pits were being topped up for most of the time we were there, much to the amusement of the bigger kids.
While you are waiting for your session there are lots of activities to explore in the building adjacent to the main venue. Try and build a massive house out of foam bricks, explore with some lego, be serinaded by the princesses or sit at the art and craft station. OR of course, you can learn CPR, tuck into a potato swirl or carefully sip the most amazing hot apple cider!
The Big Freeze festival is a great option if you are not keen on spending hours in the car to get up the hills or have stacks of snow gear. Waterproof pants, a beanie, a jacket, some gumboots and maybe try the gloves - you are all set! No need for heaps of snow gear and hours of travel to get there.
Mamma's special mention: You will need to BOOK your 25 minute snow time play session in the snow pit on the day you wish to attend. They will fill up quick so book your session today!
