shifting surrounds @ the substation, newport

Mamma is a big fan of the Substation and their latest exhibition is worth a visit! As part of a series on Art + Climate = Change, Shifting Surrounds is an immersive installation that asks questions around climate change and the effect it has on our environment.

The kids are very interested in the impact we have on the planet, particularly the ocean - so this is a great chance to get those environmental discussions going.

As with any art or exhibition it is up for interpretation, so take your time at each room and go back through them again if need be! We purchased the $3 booklet to help us interpret some of the pieces and also give us some inspiration of our own.

The stand out room is the water digital projection.

Stand back and take hold as a surging sea engulfs the entire room! It is immersive visually and also loud and dark but cool and thought provoking.

Mamma’s special mention: There is heaps around Newport to check out, the Community Hub and Library, Have bite to eat at Leroys and a play at Market St Park whilst you are here.
