wander walk - dementia friendly forest and sensory trail, ballarat

Mamma had a wander down the newly opened Dementia friendly forest trail in Ballarat and it is a very special place. The walk is the first of its kind in Australia and was initiated by local Anne Tudor who sadly lost her wife to dementia 2018. With the help of local MP’s and Parks Victoria this dedicated space is ideal for sufferers of all stages of dementia and their carers.

What makes it a dementia friendly trail? This peaceful pocket of the Woowookarung National Park has wide paths for easy access for wheelchairs, assistance dogs and groups, plus plenty of places to stop and reflect and listen to the sounds of the bush, and it is also a relatively easy and flat 450m loop.

A really wonderful and thoughtful initiative.
