tan thanh loi, footscray

Ask any Vietnamese person in Melbourne, and they probably know about Tan Thanh Loi - although they might not know it by its name, but by its dish: com tam/broken rice.

These are the best pork chops you’ll ever have. The charcoal BBQ scent will lure you from the middle of Footscray, follow that to a line that often extends a few shops down the street.

Inside, seating is crammed. We are all here for one thing: to eat! You’re likely to share your foldable steel table with other diners, which is all part of the fun!

Mamma always eats broken rice here, but there are other menu items on offer. But these pork chops are what makes them famous so Mamma says make the most of it!

Little paper cups and a thermous of tea as well as classic condiments (soy sauce, fish sauce, srirarcha and chilli oil) are atop each table.

Visiting this little restaurant, especially on a hot day, will make you feel like you’re in Vietnam.
