old point cook homestead and stables site, point cook

This is a bit of a mysterious adventure..

So back in the olden days the Point Cook Homestead was a part of the Chirnside family (of Werribee Mansion fame) property portfolio. It was built around 1857 and includes the main homestead and some stables and out buildings. Since the Chinside’s, it has been passed down to a few owners but now is managed by Parks Victoria. About 10 years ago there was a cute cafe on site but that building has since been boarded up.

What we love here is that these buildings still stand - including the old meat room and dairy rooms and all the bluestone buildings. It’s fascinating to walk these grounds and see the history here.

You can also walk through to the Point Cook Marine Sanctuary with a view of the city and the remnants of the old jetty.

But, as always you need to be mindful here - don’t try to enter any buildings (of course) or touch anything you shouldn’t. Wear sensible footwear.

And leave it as you found it.
