clunes booktown festival, clunes

This is Mamma’s idea of festival heaven. The gorgeous and historic country town of Clunes throws open its buildings and streets each year to host a fantastic festival filled with kids entertainment, food and of course - lots and lots of books.

The weekend is a celebration of all things books, with author talks, presentations and thought-provoking conversations held throughout the historic Victorian township of Clunes.

Families will love the Children’s Village, which usually features the very popular straw hay bale maze, roving performers, drop-in storytimes, workshops and plenty more. There is a huge program across the whole weekend, so it’s worth checking out the full schedule to see everything on offer.

Honestly, this is a wonderful event and if you can make the trip to Clunes (about 1 hour and 25 minutes from Melbourne) it is absolutely worth it. The country air alone will do you and the kiddos a world of good!

Mamma’s lil tip: This is a BIG event, with around 15,000–20,000 visitors heading to Clunes over the weekend. Arrive early if you’re driving, or consider catching the V/Line train as Clunes has its own station. It’s also a good idea to check the program in advance so you can plan for the talks, workshops, author signings or storytimes you don’t want to miss - there is seriously SO MUCH TO DO.
