play space, sovereign hill

Mamma says a visit to Sovereign Hill is now even more amazing with the opening of the $1.7 million Play Space!

Unique to Sovereign Hill, Play Space is an all new interactive adventure land for the kiddos. Designed around the Gold Rush theme, Play Space is one of the most thoughtfully laid out and educational play areas Mamma has ever come across.

The space has been designed to tell the prospector’s journey, of how thousands flocked to Ballarat for the Gold Rush, across four interactive play stations. Starting with the arrival of the first boats with a two storey-high sailing ship and the docks, a full-sized coach with carved horses, a water play area to pan for gold, a mining tunnel with a rock climbing wall and finally the built settlement. There’s also a sensory herb garden, carved wooden animals dotted around and a gazebo overlooking the lake. The kids may not take any of that in, BUT they will love playing here.

The new area is located directly adjacent to the Sovereign Hill Café, where you can enjoy a coffee while the kids play. A really great spot when the kids need a safe place to run!
