a day in altona by mamma knows west

Looking for the perfect family day out? Altona is a must-visit! The Altona Pier and foreshore have recently had a big upgrade, making our favourite suburb an amazing destination for families.

If you’re after some adventure in Altona, here are a few top picks for food, fun and relaxation:

  • Stroll the newly improved Altona Pier

  • Enjoy the wide foreshore with plenty of space for picnics and play

  • Head to Pier Street, where you’ll find grassed areas, seating, a cubby, and play zones for the kids

Altona offers the perfect mix of beachside fun, family-friendly activities and great local food — just a short trip from Melbourne.

Mamma says, Tuesdays are a fantastic day to visit as they have the Altona Beach Market

Start your day trip here with brekkie and coffee at the delicious Corner in Altona Cafe - They serve up yummy food and great coffee - or takeaway coffee from Matteo’s Deli and head to Logan Reserve for a play.

Make sure you leave plenty of time to make it to the Altona Library for their FREE baby times on Thursdays

Take the kids for a play and splash at the Altona Beach of course whilst you make up your mind about where to go for lunch....for us it is ALWAYS Hecho En Mexico with the kids - they love!

You will of course need an ice cream and Beach Bites or a visit to Yo Mama for a Frozen Yoghurt is THE spot to go!

There are also a couple of great bars to check out later in the night too - Metro Cellars Wine Bar and Hop Heads plus the Kumbira Bar, Cafe and Grill is a good spot too!

If you haven’t been to Altona in a while, do yourself a favour and head there for an outing or whatever takes your fancy. It really is great.
