colour: see the world in a new light at scienceworks
/If your kids love anything hands-on, bright, interactive and just a little bit mind-bending, then the brand-new Colour: See the World in a New Light exhibition at Scienceworks needs to go straight onto your family outing list.
This brand new experience has just opened and it is packed with playful ways for kids to explore how colour works through science, light, illusion and creativity — the kind of learning that feels completely like play.
Created in partnership with Questacon, the exhibition features 21 interactive experiences spread across four themed zones, where kids can experiment with coloured light, optical illusions, colour perception and how our brains interpret what we see. Expect plenty of buttons to press, things to manipulate and moments where everyone — grown-ups included — stops and says, “Wait… how did that do that?”
One of the standout additions is Colour in Action, an interactive space built especially for Scienceworks, where kids can design insect creations using acrylic pieces and projected light to see colour mixing happen in real time. It’s clever, creative and gives the exhibit that extra Scienceworks magic families already love — playful learning that the kids will be raving about for weeks to come!
Best of all, Colour runs until Tuesday 26 January 2027, giving families plenty of time to plan a visit. It’s recommended for ages 5 to 14, and exhibition entry is included with your ticket, making it easy to pair with the rest of a full Scienceworks day out.
