kororoit creek shared trail, sunshine west

Kororoit Creek is one of the waterways iconic in much of the West. It stretches from Altona Coastal Park to Sunbury. And in the many suburbs it runs through, a shared trail follows almost the whole way. So we can cycle, walk, scoot or run by the creek’s bank. Just the kind of local adventure Mamma and the kiddos LOVE!

This particular section of the trail is situated in Sunshine West, and a great place to begin your journey (if you’re not local to the area) is at Buckingham Reserve. Here, there are amenities like water fountain and toilets and free carpark, (as well as an amazing playground)! From this starting point, you can take the trail to the South East towards Altona, or head West towards Mayne Street which is where Mamma went. There are some animal sculptures along the way, a beautiful mural under a bridge and a ‘bug rug’ - a garden especially built for our tiniest insect friends. Oh, and don’t overlook the fun stepping stone creek crossing - the kids love it!

When you reach Mayne St, you can either cross the bridge and continue the trail on the other side of the creek, or turn around and head back to Buckingham Reserve. Keep in mind - this is not a looped track, so you will need to turn around a come back the way you came whenever you’re ready. An awesome day out!

Mamma’s special mention: From Mayne St, continue another 900m to Sunshine Social for a feed before heading back!
