sanatorium lake nature walk and memorial cross, mount macedon
/Lake Sanatorium Nature Walk
Mount Macedon is one of the most beautiful places in Victoria - the colours of autumn and spring really showcase its seasonal beauty. Mamma loves all the gardens, the local pub, waterfalls, picnic areas and walks.
The Sanatorium Lake Nature Walk. is a simple walk that the whole family can get involved in. It’s only a short walk from the car park and about a 15-20 minute stroll around the lake.
This is actually a man made lake - which was meant to be used by the local hospital specialising in the treatment of tuberculosis around 1900. But now it’s a spectacular part of the landscape.
It’s so peaceful, quiet and serene - and there are picnic tables (some moss covered!) if you want to sit for a snack or rest.
Mount Macedon Memorial Cross
Only a short drive from here is another great place to visit - the iconic Memorial Cross. The imposing huge structure was built as a war memorial - but due to the fact it survived the Ash Wednesday bushfires and also multiple lighting strikes it has also become a symbol of courage and survival for the community. They of course host dawn services here every year.
This is a lovely spot to visit with spectacular lookouts over the valley below, and city in the distance.
There was the old tea rooms here but unfortunately no longer running - there is often a food van here on the weekends.
