Do you love fried chicken as much as Mamma and the fam?! Then you need to get down to Footscray’s Korean Fried Chicken hotspot – Joah Kitchen. Serving up crispy Korean Fried Chicken, Yangnyeom sauce, vegan Tteokbokki, mandu dumplings, and Soju, Joah Kitchen really is a must-visit K-food spot! Vegetarians, don’t worry – there are plenty of tasty options for you too.
Located on busy Moore Street in Footscray, this old milk bar – just off the main strip of Barkly Street – has been serving up Banh Mi since June 2024. The buzz is building, and we know exactly why. Have a Banh Mi and an iced coffee here and we promise you, you’ll be back!
A new Thai restaurant has opened up in Footscray, with a great lunch deal and fantastic food and drinks. There are classics like pad Thai and the full range of Thai curries, as well as starters, so you’re sure to find something for everyone in your crew.
You know as soon as you enter Gordon St Bakery that this is an authentic, and very French, bakery. The welcoming and comforting aroma of browned butter and pastry greets you at the door - and it’s the scent that you can only get when all the products are made in house, and actually, right in front of you.
Elka Sushi takes fresh sushi to a whole new level! Located across the road from its sister store the iconic D & K Live Seafood, it uses the freshest ingredients to make amazing delicious dishes.
Ras Dashen is an icon of Footscray, and has been serving delicious Ethiopian food to the West for years. Mamma and crew love settling in here for a cosy meal guaranteed to satisfy a hungry tummy!
Moondog Wild West in Footscray is HUGE! Boasting 3 floors with a rooftop beer garden area, pool tables, booth seating, live music Fridays and Saturdays, arcade games - and wait for it - a mechanical bull arena - you and the family are guaranteed a fun time at this fantastic eatery.
Say Cheese is Footscray’s newest deli cafe specialising in subs and sangas. The Westie locals behind it have set up shop in a storefront inside Trocadero Arcade. Seek and ye shall find - and what a find! This is a great spot if you are hungry and happen to not have a hankering for bánh mì or phở. Here you’ll find a selection of top quality cured meats and vegan meat, cheeses, salads and sauces jammed between delicious sourdough rolls, made fresh to order.
Dragon Hot Pot is unlike any hot pot Mamma has been before. Here, you pick a pot (as many pots as you want, actually) and then select your ingredients with the tongs provided. Choose your noodles, proteins and veggies. Take it to the counter and you select a broth then pay by weight and they bring it to your table. So easy!
The Station Hotel in Footscray is such an incredible family friendly pub in Melbourne's West. Not only is the food EXCELLENT, the space is too - warm and comforting inside with dining area and bar area, but outside is a huge space complete with a NEW playground! PLUS kids eat free on Tuesday and Wednesdays, and they have a petting zoo each Sunday, with the option of a Sunday Roast - amazing!
Roti Road is back after several months with a FRESH new reno!
The space is fresh, open and bright - but don’t worry there is still the viewing window where you can watch the busy kitchen and roti making!
Matsu is a true culinary gem that Footscray has been waiting for. The Kaiseki experience at this cosy four-seat Japanese restaurant is a unique blend of art, performance, and flavour. Bookings are in high demand, but it's entirely worth it. Matsu will quickly become a beloved addition to Footscray's vibrant food scene, solidifying the suburb's foodie reputation.
Ebi Fine Foods now has new owners and is a limited seating Japanese fusion restaurant. The kids will get a kick out of sitting at the bar and watching their orders be prepared then slide on over from the kitchen!
Footscray’s now-iconic gelato joint. Delectable, decadent and velvety ice cream with wild Filipino flavours like coconut and pandan, purple yam, salted (fish sauce) caramel and toasted puffed rice and more, with specials every day too - like silken tofu soft serve. A must-try.
An urban garden cafe oasis that has become a Footscray institution - I mean it’s no wonder Mamma and other Westie locals love to visit Rudimentary time and time again. You can easily come several times a year to enjoy the seasonal changes - both on the menu and in the garden. There is plenty of room to move, indoor an outdoor seating, and a bike rack - oh, and it’s dog friendly AND has a kids menu.
Ollie’s Deli is filling a gap in the cafe market in Footscray, and a hole in your tummy! Ollie’s serves up GIANT sandwich melts jam packed with flavoursome fillings.
Rich, full and fresh flavours. This is modern Vietnamese food at its best and Mamma needs you all to know that the taste of Sapa Hills will stick with you long after you leave.
What makes a good Banh Mi? It all starts with a crusty bread roll that’s soft as clouds on the inside and super crunchy on the outside . If you’re not covered in bread crust shrapnels all over your lap, then you’ve simply had a sandwich…
With a great menu selection and laid-back atmosphere, this is an ideal spot for a casual lunch or dinner with the fam bam. There’s also a great selection of vegetarian options as well as a wide array of seafood, rice and noodle dishes.
Decked out in our beloved Bulldogs colours - Slice Shop Pizza delivers exactly what it says - huge, thin, and tasty, slices of delicious pizza by the slice. And when we say slice - Mamma means SLICE! There are a few bar stools you can pull up and plonk on to eat your pepperoni and watch the people of Footscray go by - or you could just take a whole pizza!
Dear Footscray Milking Station, hats off to you! You are so cute, your food is absolutely delicious and makes us feel good, you have two outdoors bits and a couple of separate cosy indoor spaces plus great friendly staff.
Stop right now - thank you very much! Yes, Mamma is a Spice Girls and pizza fan so of course Mamma LOVES this lane way restaurant.
Mamma says you haven't 'officially' become a westie until you have tasted a famous connoli from T Cavallaro and Sons. This Footscray institution was opened in 1956 by Tammaso Cavallaro and is now run by his sons Carmelo, Tony and their wives. All the delicious cookies, pastries and cannoli are made on site (of course) from late 19th century old Sicilian recipes handed down from generation to generation.
Mamma has loved this The Vic Hotel in Footscray since its renovation a few years back. It’s a pub that still feels like a pub, an updated space that still feels original. The food is incredible from entree to dessert - the buffalo wings, the mussels, the burger and oh my word, the honeycomb parfait… oh, and the Sunday Roasts are amazing! This is one to keep coming back to.
Welcomed in by warm and attentive staff, dining here is pure pleasure. Bar Thyme is a perfect destination to head out without the kids, enjoy a date night or catch-up over lunch with a few girlfriends. It’s unlike anything else in Footscray right now. It’s fine bistro food and sophisticated drinks, made approachable.
Sloth Bar is like a few bars in one! Choose your spot, with the downstairs bar, street side seating, back courtyard or head upstairs to the lounge/couch area, and THEN there’s the balcony! The whole place has a comfortable feel like you are at a friends place for drinks or on busy nights - a cool house party!

This is where it all started folks - Footscray’s bar scene that is - Littlefoot! Now serving amazing food too!

Fairly new to the Footscray food precinct is a lovely homely Latin American eatery - Papelon. Think of a colourful, cosy, cheerful restaurant full of happy, relaxed diners tucking into large plates of wholesome South American foods.
